South of Broad
On Monday we talked about Pat Conroy's new book with contrasting opinions. Some didn't like it at all, others liked it quite a lot. "Over the top," was often heard in the discussions about several of the characters. And, why was the suicide mentioned at the very beginning and end, but nothing in between? Jane would have liked a hundred pages on that dramatic event. The scene on The Citadel campus, as it turns out, is one that Cadets have imagined happening "for real." Let's hope not.
All in all, I'm looking forward to reading this book over the holidays.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Hi Everybody
This is very cool -- thanks Elise, for taking the plunge (I'm actually getting ready to launch my own blog and, like you, know next to nothing about it, so we can learn together!).
Somehow I am appearing (at least on my screen) as Julie (I set this profile just now) and as Jules (which is, I think how I'm set up for a Google group). So...until I can figure out how to combine these, I'll lead a double life.
I can make the group next time -- hope I'm able to read the book (unfortunately, papers come first, but the semester will just about be done by then. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Julie
